A pre-clinical image-guidance protocol for synchrotron micro-beam radiotherapy (MRT)
A pre-clinical image-guidance protocol is presented for synchrotron radiotherapy techniques at the Imaging and Medical Beamline (IMBL) at the Australian Synchrotron. The protocol has successfully delivered sub-millimetre accurate micro-beam and broad-beam treatments on phantoms and small-animals on IMBL. This work addresses technical issues faced when using non-clinical equipment for clinical purposes. This pre-clinical protocol aims to support upcoming veterinary trials with cats and dogs on IMBL. The next steps are to look at patient immobilisation techniques and comment on patient positioning in treatment planning.
